what does moja mean?

[pronounced: MOW- jhah]

In Swahili, Moja means “one”.

Conjuring interconnectedness.

Moja can only happen when we come together.

In Greek, Moja means “brave warrior”

Moja goes beyond the traditional postures of Yoga.

We seek to provide the physical and mental tools

For the brave warrior within each of us.
In Norwegian cultures, Moja means “great mother”.

We care for the family unit as a whole.

We believe in the Mother and her pillar of strength

Together, connected, as one, we strive to create generational wellness.

From the inside, out, and to all.

Welcome,

I’m so glad you’re here!

I embarked on my yoga journey beginning with a 200 hour intensive teacher training in 2014. I had just received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and I was committed to moving across the country and joining the rest of my MFT program cohort. In the weeks following my teacher training, I reflected and pivoted my own philosophy and practice to a more holistic approach to wellness. I focused my energy inward and discovered my own mind-body connection.

The mind-body connection is an important pillar of my practice. I believe that our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can positively or negatively affect our biological functioning. In other words, our minds can affect how healthy our bodies are. On the other hand, what we do with our physical body can impact our mental state. This results in a complex interrelationship between our minds and bodies.

Family, love, joy, health, nature. Simplicity. I believe we think we need more than we do. To become embodied is to experience a heightened ability within oneself to focus and ground their body in the present moment and to feel all of life's offerings (emotional and physical).

During my first pregnancy, I felt embodied when I was supporting and practicing with other pregnant women like myself. I gave birth to my son in a hospital setting. This was not the birth experience of my dreams. I never pondered what my labor/birth and postpartum experiences might look like. I realized I was not alone in this. My goal then shifted to providing education and services that will help others reclaim their lives outside of cultural norms.

I dove into this work head on through a birth coach/doula training and an Ayurvedic Postpartum doula certification. I continued my yoga instruction education by training under renowned prenatal yoga instructor, Jane Austin.

My second pregnancy and the birth of my daughter gave me the opportunity to put into practice all that I share with other new/expecting mothers! My natural, water birth experience under the care of midwives empowered me as a mother, woman and human being.

I strive to educate and inspire others with a holistic lens. I offer a natural, full circle, approach to wellness. I hope you are inspired & encouraged through my offerings and content to reflect on what matters to you.

Let us all take a deep breath in and value simplicity, nature & love. I commit to living a more conscious life.

I’m so excited to be a part of your health + wellness journey!

xo,

-Megan
